Alberta invited 396 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination on August 10. This is the biggest draw that the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) has held in 2021.

The AINP issued Notification of Interest (NOI) letters through the Alberta Express Entry stream in this draw. In order to receive a NOI, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300.

Alberta has now invited 3,157 Express Entry candidates to apply for a provincial nomination in 2021. Alberta is only allowed to issue 6,250 nomination certificates this year.

The Alberta Express Entry stream is an enhanced Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), this means it is linked to the federal Express Entry pool of candidates. Alberta is allowed to search through the federal pool of candidates for profiles of people who may be eligible for a provincial nomination.

To be eligible for a provincial nomination through this stream, candidates need work experience in an eligible occupation in Alberta. The AINP does not provide a list of eligible occupations, only a list of occupations that are not eligible for the stream.

The Express Entry profile should indicate that the candidate is interested in moving to and settling in Alberta. If a candidate has Canadian education or has a direct family member who is a permanent resident or citizen in Alberta, it can increase the likelihood of receiving a NOI.

Express Entry candidates are given a score based on the CRS. Points are awarded based on various human capital factors such as education, work experience, age, language ability, and more.

Express Entry candidates automatically receive 600 CRS points added to their overall score when they get a provincial nomination from a PNP. If the lowest-scoring candidate from this draw is nominated, their new CRS score will be 900. This is more than enough to be invited later in an Express Entry draw for permanent residence.
