Ontario invited a total of 158 international students to apply for a provincial nomination in two (2) draws held on May 26.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited candidates with profiles in the Expression of Interest (EOI) pool. As well, OINP invited candidates who may be eligible for the Ontario Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream.

The first draw was a general draw that invited the majority of the candidates, 147 international students. Invited candidates were required to have an EOI score of at least 73.

The second draw invited the remaining 11 candidates from the Regional Immigration Pilot. There was no minimum score requirement for candidates in this draw.

The Ontario International Student Stream is under the Employer Job Offer category of Ontario’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The stream is open to international student candidates who have an eligible job offer from an employer in the province.

Candidates do not need to apply from within Canada, granted all eligibility requirements are met. However, candidates must have completed an eligible program at a Canadian Designated Learning Institution, have an eligible job offer in Ontario, and intend to immigrate and live in the province, among other criteria.

To be considered for this PNP, candidates need to register an EOI profile on the Ontario website. After registering, the profile will go into the EOI pool and then Ontario gives a score. The score is based on many different factors such as the skill level of the job offer, direct work experience, wage, education, language ability, the region in which the education or work was located, and more.

The Regional Immigration Pilot is designed for the OINP to bring skilled labour that is not available locally to small Ontario communities. There are three participating communities that candidates must have a job offer in to be eligible.

  1. Chatham-Kent;
  2. Cornwall; or
  3. Quinte West/Belleville.

Candidates must also meet the criteria for one of the Ontario Employer Job Offer streams: Foreign Worker, International Students, or In-Demand Skills.
