Canada's immigration levels stay low due to the Covid pandemic. According to the data provided by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Canada issued over 15000 permanent residency status in September 2020. This is the lowest number of invitations due to COVID-19 as compared to the number of invitations in September 2019, which was 35,000.

Overall, Canada has invited around 143,500 migrants between January and September. In the initial nine months of 2019, Canada invited 264,000 immigrants and more than 341,000 total last year.

Recently, Canada has announced to welcome more than 1.2 million people over the next three years. Due to the crisis of Covid-19, last year's plan for bringing more than one million immigrants over a three-year period didn’t go accordingly. From the beginning of Covid-19, the restriction on travel has slowed down this process. Minister Mendicino mentioned that the government remains promised to bring newcomers in order to maintain Canada’s economy.
