Canada sets the new target to welcome more than 1.2 million people over the next three years
Canada sets the new target to welcome more than 1.2 million people over the next three years. Canada's immigration targets were just increased and the country plans to welcome more immigrants than before. This increase in number is meant to support the economy to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Based on this figure, Canada will allow 401,000 permanent residents in 2021, 411,000 in 2022, and 421,000 in 2023 which in total will be 1,233,000 people.
Due to the crisis of Covid-19, last year's plan for bringing more than one million immigrants over a three-year period didn’t go accordingly. From the beginning of Covid-19, the restriction on travel has slowed down this process. Minister Mendicino mentioned that the government remains promised to bring newcomers in order to maintain Canada’s economy.
